It's a really good proactive planeswalker design that actually fits pretty well into Commander, which is not super common for the card type

In the days of Boss Sligh, I wanted something that could fight through Master of Waves and the rest of Mono-Blue Devotion so much that for a while I splashed green for Skylasher

You'll draw a card even if neither creature is on the battlefield as the ability resolves

Plus, eventually Explorer will become Pioneer anyway
