Even basic lands were hard to get a hold of thanks to the lack of any starter decks (starter sets contained random cards to encourage players to build the deck themselves)
In some situations, it may be better to wait until you can cast the more expensive side , as then youll have an opportunity to benefit from its effect before its blown up, rather than hoping to unlock it later and it scaring your opponent into action
That encourages you to stay active, rewarding consistent play with combat disruption
Sure, they might hit a 7/7 Shark later, but even with control-mirror-level card draw, a ninth land is a ways off
Value Cards: Saheeli, the Gifted Loyal Drake Treasure Nabber Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor Ancient Stone Idol Saheelis Directive Blasphemous Act Retrofitter Foundry Endless Atlas Unwinding Clock Blinkmoth Urn Forge of Heroes Great Furnace The deck has solid value (about $60 total), thanks mostly to Retrofitter Foundry ($17), for seeing play in eternal competitive formats, and Treasure Nabber ($11), for its role in a mana-rock-heavy format
This certainly wasnt the kind of thing that we wanted for our still-growing and fun-based format
